Sunbird Energy Holdings Pty Ltd (“Sunbird”) is a private South African gas explorer and developer focused on southern Africa where limited domestic gas supply and growing energy needs have created significant opportunity for the development of large scale energy projects. Sunbird recently acquired and privatized all of the gas assets of ASX Listed company Interpose Holdings Limited (formerly known as Sunbird Energy Limited).

Sunbird now owns a 76% interest in the Ibhubesi Gas Project, Block 2A, offshore of the west coast of South Africa and is the operator of the block. The Ibhubesi Gas Project is South Africa’s largest and yet to be developed independently certified gas reserves at 540 Bcf (2P) with independently certified “best estimate” prospectivity of close to 8 Tcf of gas. Joint Venture partner PetroSA, South Africa’s national oil company, holds the remaining 24%.

The Ibhubesi Gas Project has multiple development opportunities to supply the South African energy market ongoing gas sales negotiations with Eskom for the provision of gas to the existing Ankerlig Power Station, various independent power producer opportunities and other potential industrial uses. Sunbird also has a portfolio of Coal Bed Methane (CBM) project across South Africa under development with pilot production being the next stage of development for the Mopane Project.
